Demolition is underway on the longtime Food Lion store in Grassy Creek to make way for a brand-new 37,000-square-foot supermarket. Food Lion has confirmed it plans to rebuild at the same location in The Spruce Pine Commons shopping center, although a construction timeline and opening date have not yet been announced. The new store will feature expanded shopping options, including curbside pickup and home delivery.

Meanwhile, TRACTOR Food & Farms has announced it will open The TRACTOR Store this fall at 207 Lower Locust Street in downtown Spruce Pine. The nonprofit grocery store will offer fresh produce, meat, dairy, baked goods, and pantry staples sourced from farms and producers within 300 miles of the region.

The 1,000-square-foot store is opening in a building renovated after sustaining extensive damage during Hurricane Helene. TRACTOR officials say the new market will help fill the need for fresh, locally sourced food in the community while creating additional opportunities for Western North Carolina farmers.

The TRACTOR Store will be open Tuesday through Sunday and will accept SNAP and EBT benefits.

Ingles has selected a new site for a grocery store location in Spruce Pine and they are beginning development plans. The Spruce Pine store was damaged beyond repair during Helene. The new location will be along Highway 19 between Greenwood Road and NC-226A. a timeline has not been announced.
